What exactly is this project?
To begin, it is a series of meditations on space, light, architecture and urbanism intended to elicit discussion and action.
DARKhut is a polemical and practical response to the recent propagation, in towns & cities worldwide, of mobile surveillance & deterrence towers and the general overwhelming tech & surveillance culture that saturates our lives today.
We’ve chosen to respond to these surveillance towers (The White Knight, below right) because of the behavioral implications implicit in their design and implementation.
The DARKhut is a place of the complete absence of daylight or artificial light. It is a place of darkness, contemplation, focus and meditation.
A portal to the unconscious, to the dissolution of the watchful, fragile ego toward a radical realization of space, ourselves and our towns & cities at their most fundamental - open, interconnected, infinitely expansive and full of energy and potential.
Our towns and cities reflect who we are.
Our lack of understanding and misuse of space and light is a great danger to our future as a species.
